How to SUM by matching partial text in Excel

After applying Freeze or Unfreeze Excel stopped working dialogbox appeared!!!

Microsoft Excel often stops working and shut down the program. In a day it becomes very common problem. I would like to explain here why and how we can fix it. From my personal experience I'm telling that, there are few reasons are involved to make this happen. These are:

(1) Unknown Reason:

For any unknown reason, are you facing any problem running Excel? Then simply Microsoft Office Configuration Analyzer Tool may help you to find the correct reason. You can download it from site. At present it is running 2.2 version. To download it you can try below link:

(2) COM Add-Ins:

While you use COM Add-Ins, there is a common chance to get an error while loading the Add-Ins. Some file may not load correctly, that is why this problem arises. Your Excel stopped working and shutting down.
To overcome from this problem you may try by uninstalling all COM Add-Ins. If all works nicely and you need to use a COM Add-Ins again, then try to reinstall your COM Add-Ins properly. And then try to reinstall your MS Office.

To uninstall the COM Add-Ins from your Excel, please follow the below steps:

- Click on File | Options | Add-Ins.
- Select the COM Add-ins from Manage drop down list and Click on Go.
- Uncheck all the check boxes and Click Ok.

(3) File Reading/Writing Permission:

Please make sure that, the Excel file, you are going to edit, has really allowed to edit by you (I mean your Windows User name). To check it, follow the below steps:- Right Click on your saved Excel File
- Click on Properties
- Click on Security Tab
- Click on your user name (which is your Windows login User name)
- Check the File Permission Status like below:

(4) Office System File Problem:

It might be another cause to happen this problem. There might be a problem in your MS Office System Files. Probably some System File may crashed or deleted or not working properly. To avoid it, you can try by following ways:

- By Uninstalling the MS Excel and Install again it.
- By Uninstall all the MS Office programs and Install it again.

(5) Printer problem:

It is the most common problem to set a Printer as Default Printer which is not available. The reason is when you make change your Excel file, then it also change the Printer Setting, Margin, Header and Footer, Paper Size, Viewing etc. If your Printer is not supports it, then it can hang/stuck or stop working. So try to set the default printer properly which you really have.

To change the default Printer setting, follow the below steps:
- In Windows Control Panel, Click on Devices and Printer.

Image 3: Devices and Printers

- This will show you Printers list which are currently installed in your system. Select your Printer by Left Click.
- Then Right Click on it and Click on Set as Default Printer

Now try to change anything in Excel file. If it works then fine, else follow next one.

(6) Network Connection Problem:

If your default printer is a Network Printer, and the Network Connection is not strong, then you might be face in this problem. So, check that your Printer is where.

(7) External Link:

As we know that, we can use external link to populate our Excel data. Even many times, I've seen that, many MIS Executives sends their reports by using a VLOOKUP() whose Lookup_array range is from another Excel File, which is in his PC. But he sends the Report file with those VLOOKUP() formulas, contains the all external links. That is why your Excel not found the Source Data and can stop working. So, before working file make sure that there is no external link (if it is not necessary for you).

To find the external link, there is a very simply way:
- Just press CTRL+F to show the Find dialog box
- Then type .x
- And Click on Find

(8) AntiVirus Softwares/Virus:

As we know that, Few AntiVirus software may crash your system file automatically and disturb others software to run it properly. Or your PC may infected by malware, virus or others. So, clean your PC and test your file.

If something found, then try to fix it. Else you might get a problem.
