How to create Hanging Frame Chart for Sales Forecasting in Excel 2016

Waffle Chart is a good way to represent your single cell value. It is an alternative of Doughnut Chart. This chart cant be decorated beautifully by using Autoshape in Excel. In this tutorial I'll help you how to create a Hanging Frame Waffle Chart in Excel with Autoshape.

Step by step process:

First of all take a new spreadsheet and plot like below image:

  Figure 1: Primary Plotting

Main chart will display in F10:O19 cell range. Select this range and use Fill color and Text color as light gray. After that, take border inside color as White. Outside Border color as dark gray.

In F19 cell type 1%. In G19 cell use =F19+1%. Copy G19 cell with formula and paste H19:O19 cell so that, O19 cell shows 10%. Now in F18 cell use =O19+1%. In G18 cell use =F18+1%. Copy the G18 cell and paste right to H18:O19. Then Copy the cell range F18:O18. Select F10:O17. Paste it.

Now in F7 cell type "ACHIEVEMENT" and Select font color as Light Orange. In F8 type "PROJECTION" and Select font color as Light Gray. Marge cell L7:O7 and L8:O8. In L7 cell use =B8 and L8 cell use =B11. Select Border color dark gray. Select D2:R21 and Select fill color as white.

Figure 2: After primary design

Time to apply Conditional Formatting. Select F10:O17 and apply a Conditional Formatting where Value <=B11 with Dark Gray Fill and Font color. Again apply another Conditional Formatting where Value is <=B8 with Light Orange Fill and Font color. If Orange color is not showing, then move the Orange color Conditional Formatting Rules at top from Conditional Formatting Manage Rules.

That's it. Finally use a Frame AutoShape and place it outside of the chart. From Format menu Select the AutoShape and apply Fill color as Black, Shape Outline as Black. Then go to Shape Effects - Bevel - Soft Round from Format Menu.
