Problem:
When you double click an icon or excel file name for a Microsoft Excel workbook, then displays a blank screen where you expect the file content to appear like below image:

Solution:

To resolve this problem, try the following ways, as appropriate, in the given order.

Way 1: Ignore Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) Option from Excel:

Step 1: In the upper-left corner of the Excel window, select File, then Options.

Step 2: On the left side of the Options window, select Advanced to open the Advanced window.

Step 3: In the Advanced window, scroll down to the General section.

Step 4: Clear the "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)" check box, then select the OK button at the bottom of the window.

Way 2: Repair User Experience Virtualization (UE-V):

Step 1: Download and Install the "Microsoft User Experience Virtualization (UE-V) 2.0" from Microsoft.

Way 3: Reset file associations:

For Windows 8.1/10:
- Copy the file that is opening incorrectly, to your desktop.
- Right-click the file, and choose Properties.
- On the General tab, next to Type of file, the type of file will be indicated within parenthesis. For example, (XLSX).

The Opens with shows you which app it is currently associated with.

To open this type of file in a different app:
- Select Change.
- Select More apps.
- Select the desired app, then select the checkbox to Always use this app.
- Select the OK button.

Way 4: Open a New Excel file and then Double Click any previously saved Excel file:

- Open a New Blank Excel File and Minimize it.
- Then Double Click any previously saved Excel file.

It works for me, but it's very disturbing because always Book1 - Excel file remains open on my PC.
